Episode 73 – Staying Grounded With Nurse Educator Lynn Wilkie Newberry, DNP

Hello to all my nurses and nurse leaders listening-in today. Today, in Satori Radio,  I’m speaking with Nurse Educator Lynn Wilkie Newberry, DNP – who works in policy with new-to-practice nurses, among many other things. Today she shares with us some of the ways that she remains grounded during these challenging times.

For Lynn to remain grounded as a busy health professional, she dedicates her spare time to a well-intentioned yoga practice. Although she doesn’t meditate, she definitely fits-in everyday mindful moments in the most creative of ways!  Lynn shares with us the value of being a health educator and loves the fact that she gets to travel for a living, which supports her needs for having variety and adventure in her life. I think you’ll find her to be an inspiring role model to future nurses, and those newer to the profession, as they carve their path in the nursing profession. Lynn achieves balance and remains grounded by spending time close to the ocean. She lives in a touristy coastal town in South Virginia that offers her the ocean at her doorstep. The choice to live this way was entirely by design, and Lynn’s created her own story that resonates most with living-out her life purpose, not only as a nurse but as a thriving human being. Most of us can easily attest to the fact that spending time close to the ocean can improve our physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

As humans, we are designed to spend time outdoors. Even though much of our daily habits  have forced us to change significantly over the last several decades, Lynn remains connected to herself through nature, specifically water. She literally wrote her own story, and supports us all to question how we stay connected with ourselves.

Recap on Episode 70, 5 Strategies To Stay Grounded

Here are some strategies to try out when you’re in a challenging place, and loosing your footing:

Use prayer/meditation, get active, get out in nature, seek-out guidance, and align with your true purpose. As you will hear in our interview with Lynn, discovering the path to greater meaning and purpose comes from learning what’s important to you.  When you take the time out, and practice some daily mindfulness, your journey as a nurse can be pretty rewarding. She shows us that feeling grounded can be achieved in so many ways, but ultimately if you dedicate a few moments to getting to a better place, it can have a great impact on your overall well-being. Thank you for listening to The Satori Radio Podcast.
