Episode 27 – How To Reach Your Full Potential

If you are a busy health practitioner, you’ve undoubtedly achieved success. You’ve also achieved a certain level of self-actualization. You can manage productivity, even at a pretty sophisticated level. Your accomplishments are likely quite high. You can even say that you’ve reached “success” in some ways, and you’re at the top of your game (cognitively). However, there is another core topic that has far reaching effects than executing tasks, success or productivity bundled together, and that is fulfilment.

I’ve had the opportunity to interact with many different people, and from all walks of life. One striking observation that I’ve made is that success does not necessarily result in fulfilment. If you’ve gone through my blog you might have come across two specific posts about The 3 Golden Rules For Attaining Productivity and my 4 Key Steps To Achieve Success.

These posts give you a blueprint of how to attain success and productivity in your daily life.

As a busy health practitioner, you’ve achieved success!

You’ve achieved a certain level of being able to manage productivity at a higher level. You’re likely at the top of your game, cognitively, and on your way to creating a super-mind. But some habits are just hard to break and you need to focus to really get what you want out of life! However, there is another core topic that has far reaching effects than success or productivity bundled together, and that is fulfilment.

The definition of fulfillment means many things to different people. I tend to think of it as a sense of satisfaction and belonging. It is a feeling of you achieving your life purpose. but…but….but….you might still feel like there is a huge void inside you…and today’s podcast is about achieving peak emotional performance and helping you feel a sense of growth (maybe even a sense of gratitude that you landed here!).

People can often a feel a void, especially when you’re giving out so much, and your personal growth has been so tightly woven with your professional identity. So you may feel that you are achieving professional milestones, but there’s still a void. That void is there to show you that you‘re probably not being mindful of something which does not blend with your soul’s ambition.

Where does “full potential” come from?

I tend to think that the words “full potential” have been used countless times out of context. Many people think “full potential” =  success. While this might be true, it does not necessarily show causality between the two. As I had mentioned earlier, you can be successful and dissatisfied with yourself at the same time. That dissatisfaction means that you haven’t reached your full potential and quite simply you’re not growing. In other words, you’ve probably been climbing the wrong tree your entire life.

How can I achieve fulfillment?

To achieve a certain level of peak performance, you must be aware of yourself. You are likely aware that you don’t have two minutes to think to yourself throughout the day. You’re likely aware that even fitting in a bathroom break is tough because everyone needs you. Let’s face it, you’re probably scoring pretty high on Contribution being one of your top 2 human needs. Episode 6 covers these 6 core needs we have.  But I’m going to give you some tough love here..you might have to push yourself to fit in those breaks, take a rest, close your eyes, get out of high beta brain waves, say a little mantra or affirmation, and ask yourself the question “what’s giving me the most fulfillment in my life?

…and if it’s not a part of your professional life, how can  you merge the 2 in some way so that you’re more fulfilled in all aspects of your life. Likewise in your personal relationships, are you fulfilled? Are you fulfilling your partners needs?

So…

What would you feel most comfortable working on right now when it comes to….adding in a few minutes of reflection daily?  Reflection is key to being able to shift out of “professional mode” and into “personal ‘you’ time”.

If I choose a Personal Reflection practice, what am I supposed to do?

Well, good question. If you could choose 1 time a day that is most convenient for you to have 5 minutes to yourself. when would you fit that in? The s
econd thing you need to do, is train your body and mind to do this regular practice. In order to do so, you might have to schedule this time for yourself in your ical. I suggest on your way to work, or on your way home. Episode 21 discusses at great length how to shift your health routine.

If you choose to do some personal reflection on your way to work, you could consider the fulfillments you have with your home life, upon return from work, you could dedicate those few minutes of reflection time towards your professional life. Perhaps you’re an entrepreneur and you have more flex in your day, fit it in when you feel it makes sense.

Third, what I want you to reflect upon is what was most fulfilling in your day? What made you feel like you contributed to others?  If you’re deep into your career there is no harm in taking a step-back to reassess your life. Many people tend to achieve other people’s goals rather than their own hence the reason why they usually end up with a sense of dissatisfaction. However, there is always time to change and to be you. As Tony Robbins says, success without fulfilment is the ultimate failure.
